Dr. Hopfenspirger has worked in several nursing and advanced practice nursing specialties, including psychiatry, family practice and cardiology, since 2004. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree for Family Nurse Practitioner from St. Louis University in 2012 and went on to receive her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree for Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from the University of Minnesota in 2014.
Dr. Hopfenspirger provides comprehensive psychiatric diagnostic evaluations and on-going medication management for a variety of patients across the lifespan. Her clinical practice interests include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, thought disorders, serious and persistent mental illness, PTSD, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. She has provided psychiatric care in a variety of settings, including family practice, pediatrics, specialty clinics, county community mental health outpatient clinics, teen/young adult community clinics and corrections.
Dr. Hopfenspirger is an innovative, open-minded patient advocate who places great importance on developing a therapeutic relationship with patients, families and members of the treatment team. With her broad range of skills and knowledge in several areas of advanced nursing practice, she provides individualized, patient-centered care and works alongside each patient to develop shared treatment goals. She aims to help others realize their potential in order to live their best lives.
Dr. Hopfenspirger is an Affiliate Faculty member at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing. She speaks on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and trauma-informed care, and has served on advisory boards and task forces for Minnesota state-based health agencies. In addition to spending time with her supportive village of family and friends, she enjoys running, alpine skiing, traveling, attending concerts and playing bass guitar and ukulele.
